TRIBUTE
kalidas Venkataraman
born on January 03, 1942 and
passed away on August 14, 2022.
Kali - The most sparkling part of a kaleidoscope...indeed
A rich & enviable experience, an unbeatable spirit in getting things done; a well acquired knowledge with undistracted interests; an adorable ability to express them in anecdotes and the penchant for writing; an absolute hardworker and without a doubt the go-getter; a good friend who can gel into one's life with such ease well supported by his unique ability to strike a chord on varied subjects; that special someone you can find to talk to be it Jazz, carnatic, film music, wine, travel, languages, advertising or anything interesting; extremely committed and passionate about even the smallest thing that is in the 'to-do' list...
...these thoughtful lines could well go on and on, as most who know him well will find themselves in, if they are asked to talk about him.
And for those who didnt have a chance to know him that well, he created one, as a result of him pouring his heart out in the form of written word...'Through the KALEIdoscope'
And I can think of only two words that keeps coming to my mind as I had this privilege to write a note to him on the book...PASSION & child-like ENTHUSIASM.
Having been a witness to a small part of his grand stay at The Hindu, I am thankful as I reminisce the good times as a partner to our sweet wins particularly the international & luxe sides of the incredible journey.
Feel honoured to have known him as so many would say. He will be missed forever as our memories of him are so beautifully etched in all of us.
Respect. RIP.
- Immanuel (along with all the TH buddies)

It is very sad to know our beloved Kalidas is not with us any more but his memories are always with us. Man of great attitude, ability, knowledge and honesty has inspired many of us. He always believes in meeting clients in person and gives importance to basics. He has a time for everything and does with class. His contacts in industry across markets remember Kali as great PR professional. As we all know he is multi-talented, I was surprised at his interest in cooking, he liked brinjal stuffed curry in my house and asked for its recipe to prepare. We were in regular contact even after his retirement. We used to share and enjoy our good olden days. I was always amused with his memory and energy! We will miss a great soul, may his soul rest in peace ! My heart felt condolences to his family members.

May the departed SOUL rest in peace. Can't forget the first meeting with Kalidas Sir, way back in August 2000. It was an interview meeting at the 2nd Floor Guest House of Kasturi Buildings , Churchgate. He was always really kind and welcoming in nature. I will always be thankful to Kalidas Sir for considering me for a posting in Mumbai Office. 15 years of my service with The Hindu Group of Publications began with his statement "Yes , you can join us". I do cherish those wonderful memories of working in Mumbai and this work opportunity with the group gave me the much required experience to not only earn a living for my family, but also bestowed upon me, rich and varied experiences of meeting so many people from various backgrounds as a part of media marketing life , which formed a strong foundation for my overall growth. Whatever I am today, whatever little bit I have achieved in life....began with the blessings of Kalidas Sir and later with immense support , guidance and motivation by Venkat Sir, Partha Sir, Suresh Sir , Sridhar Sir , Venkatesh B Iyer and colleagues from Mumbai office and from other cities as well. Kalidas Sir played a big role in keeping the flock together at The Hindu Group of Publications. Will miss you Kalidas Sir and also will miss your Facebook posts which were always noteworthy.

It may be difficult to find the appropriate tribute to you Kali Sir, for just as you stood at the head of the team, stood behind me when it mattered. There are in my memory’s several everlasting images about you and the warm feelings for me. You gave me hope all the time. You were so friendly &welcoming when we came over to your home and the chill out music sessions that the Mumbai teammates benefited, You on the Yamaha key board…. These are forever in my memories. Kalidas possessed a razor-sharp mind, keen observation, clever wit, coupled with a gift to express oxford words majestically in his writings on diverse subjects & possessed an indomitable spirit to get his things completed, make him one of a kind. Post retirement. publishing a book to share his work adventure were one of his dreams and he accomplished it. I recall the conversations that he had just before the book went into final printing. As I look back, feeling a sense of satisfaction, that I could facilitate in obtaining the media coverage and reviews from eminent leaders in advertising that Kali desired, even more so, to receive his appreciation. Farewell and God speed Dear Kali Sir, it was privilege and delight to know you. Suresh

I am still processing passing away of Kali...and it has been indeed rather difficult. It was rare honour to know him and work with him. Kali a true friend ,guide and mentor always brought out best in each one of us by sheer empathy .A true leader who was trusted and respected and who led from front. A gentleman and a great soul. Wide variety and array of his knowledge was spell bounding. He could talk impressively impromptu on any subject,at any time and with anyone ! Going for presentations and meetings with him I learnt early and memorable lessons in sales. I had opportunity to work with him over two decades on numerous projects.Introduction of hinduonline to market when VSNL had just launched internet in India was most memorable one. His amazing elephant memory made it fun to work with him. His enthusiasm was infectious.Professional integrity, dignity, commitment, self desclipne and quest for improvement I Iearnt a lot by observing him.He would always set examples. If there was a mistake at work by any one,He will be silent and often take the bullet instead or quietly diffuse it, but if you did something good he will ensure everyone knew about it . Many of us worked with him over decades and there exists a repositery of jokes of Kali special expressions and dialogues ...He knew about them and on rare occasions he will dare us to bring it on ..and we all would laugh together. His Airtel phone was not working last week ,he called me from.U.S out of blue asked Hey do you know who Gopal vittal is ? I mumbled ..and in his typical style Kali said he is current Airtel CEO. Please speak to him and ensure my mobile does not trouble me. (Of course it was set right in matter of hours.) Little did I realise then that was to be last call from him.. Affection and prayers of many people whose lives he touched would give constant courage to his family in this trying time. Will miss Kali "The Great Boss." May you rest in peace. Neeru

Felt extremely distraught when I heard the bad news this morning . I was one of those lucky ones to have worked under his leaderdhip for almost 9 years . literature , music, travel you name he can go on for hours . it was a delight to see him play the keyboard especially those late night bachelor party getogethers we use to have at khalsa dhabba ( on the bangalore highway ) . Still unable to get over the sad news .... . In our prayers . RIP . om shanthi. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever ! Sathish.

Kali was a great guy and a good friend. I worked with him closely in Bombay for close to 2 decades. He had an eye for detail with sharp business acumen and even greater memory. A perfect disciplinarian too with a blend of old world charm and modernity. Om Shanti. Partha

Style and finesse - two words that define V Kalidas (Kali) Sir. Having known him for 28 years - 19 years as a colleague, mentor, music guru… it’s quite a journey that me and many of my TH buddies have travelled with him and known him for his deep and passionate involvement in everything he did. His writings had panache, even if they were the mundane festival special supplement circulars. His language was mellifluous and his care was unparalleled. During the writing of his book, he would call innumerable times to pick our brains on events during our tenure in TH. The 1996 AIAC conference held in Trident, Chennai was one of our earliest interactions and he brought it out elaborately in his Facebook posts to commemorate the silver jubilee of the event and later in his book. He would remember every small anecdote and regale the memories. It’s hard to believe that the effervescence will be missing and his Facebook page (our constant interactions in recent years) will simply go silent. Ever smiling and always ready to engage in a talk on Cricket, F1, Football, Tennis, NBA… Kali was a master in every topic of discussion! Apart from work talk - strumming to Bollywood songs was one of the most fond memories I shared with Kali! Kalidas Venkataraman Sir - You will be missed. सद्गति ॐ शांति शांति शांति !!!
